About MAHMA
THE MIDWEST AFFORDABLE HOUSING MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (MAHMA) is a professional association representing owners and managers of affordable housing throughout Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
We are a regional organization with grassroots support from local, regional and national affiliations. Through our liaison with THE NATIONAL AFFORDABLE HOUSING MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (NAHMA), our members benefit from the tremendous support and legislative work that is provided by the working partnership of the national HUD offices and other government, and community agencies. Located in Washington, DC, NAHMA works with key industry and government officials in facilitating the affordable housing industry and in voicing the decisive needs and concerns of its members.
The Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association’s members are responsible for the day-to-day management tasks for over 800,000 units of the nation’s affordable housing stock. The Association recognizes that creating and maintaining quality affordable housing communities is essential to each family’s ability to reach its full potential. Support the LIHTC A.C.T.I.O.N. Proposals in the Senate Jobs Bill |

NAHMA is a member of A.C.T.I.O.N. (A Call To Invest in Our Neighborhoods), a group working to ensuring that families have access to affordable housing. NAHMA requests your assistance in our grassroots advocacy efforts to include A.C.T.I.O.N.'s proposals to improve the LIHTC program in the Senate Jobs Bill. We have supported this proposal since the beginning of the financial crisis in late 2008.
Please call your Senators today and request in the Senate Jobs Bill, the Hiring Incentives to Restore Employment Act (HIRE), the inclusion of:
- The increase in the Housing Tax Credit carry-back for up to five years;
- An extension for the Housing Credit cash-exchange program (Section 1602) from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) for one more year to 2010 housing credits; and
- Allowing the LIHTC potential investor base to be expanded to pass-through entities - LLCs and Subchapter S corporations - and closely held corporations.
If you cannot directly speak with your representative, please request the staff member that handles low-income housing tax credits in the office. Time is running out to gain support for these proposals!

In addition to the yearly drug-free theme, this year's contest continues to include a sub-theme opening the door for more avenues of expression. The 2010 theme is "I Can Do Anything I Believe" and the sub-theme is "Become A Superstar"
When children believe in themselves there is no limit to their future success. This additional theme gives participants an outlet to express that impact through their artwork. It also allows Seniors to demonstrate how important it is to stay drug free and how maintaining a healthy mind and body can lead to great things for the future. This allows the Seniors to become a role model for the children.

MAHMA Receives Grant To Launch Scholarship Fund |

The Midwest Affordable Housing Management Association (MAHMA) has received $15,000 from Assisted Housing Services Corporation to establish education scholarships for residents of MAHMA member-managed housing.
According to MAHMA President Timothy Zaleski of National Church Residences, this is the first time MAHMA has received a grant from Assisted Housing Services to establish a scholarship fund.
Zaleski said the non-profit welcomes the opportunity to establish a scholarship program that will serve regional residents living in MAHMA member communities. The MAHMA Executive Committee will be responsible for managing the program, including investing, establishing criteria and granting scholarships.
"We are grateful for this grant from Assisted Housing Services," said Zaleski. "Our hope is, once established, we will be able to leverage additional funding sources to create an ongoing scholarship program."
Dennis Guest Executive Director, Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority presented the check on behalf of the Assisted Housing Services Corporation.
